Do One Thing …
“Do one thing every day that scares you.” Eleanor Roosevelt
I’m a care partner for several immediate family members and the last couple of weeks have been very busy on that front. Add in whiplash and stress from news in the world at large and it would seem this week would not be the time to push myself outside my comfort zone in my studio. But that’s exactly what I did.
Beyond our comfort zone is the fear zone. I’ve been in the fear zone for a couple of weeks on the idea of submitting an entry to a juried show I learned about at the beginning of January. I kept coming up with reasons to not submit my work, even though the theme of the show seems to be a perfect fit for my work. Finally after a lot of internal analysis paralysis, I sat down at my computer yesterday and started typing, with the thought that all I had to do was make a start and that would be enough.
But then I just kept going, left the fear zone and dove into the learning zone — which will grow my comfort zone! The submission is done and out of my hands. The next time it will be easier. Yes, there will be a next time, regardless of how this one turns out!
What’s on my work table and frame this week? I finished “Fly Country”; it just needs the sleeve sewn on the back for hanging. I have three potential ideas for what’s next and while I sort those out, I returned to the dragonfly I started working on in a class at Sauder this past August. Watch my social media (Instagram and Bluesky) this week for progress photos.
